Our Approach to Research

We work across different areas of science on collaborative research with youth, caregivers, clinicians, community partners, and research networks across Nova Scotia and beyond.

Our Current Projects

  • GROW IYS

Generating Resilience on Our Way to Integrated Youth Service in Nova Scotia supports the development of Integrated Youth Services in Nova Scotia through a learning health systems approach. By working collaboratively with youth, caregivers, service providers, and communities through mixed-methods and participatory arts-based approaches,

GROW-IYS aims to understand what “successful” IYS looks like, and how those definitions evolve over time. GROW-IYS is supported by funding from the Canadian Institute of Health Research.

  • GROUND IYS

Guiding Real Outcomes through United and Novel Approaches to Data focuses on strengthening data capacity across the IYS-NS network. The project equips service providers and system leaders with the skills and tools needed to navigate complex data environments and use data meaningfully in practice. Through hands-on learning and collaboration, GROUND IYS supports sites and the youth they serve in adapting to new data strategies, understanding and working with data, and embedding data-informed decision-making into everyday care.

GROUND-IYS is supported by funding from the Canadian Institute of Health Research.

  • UNITE

Unifying Networks to InnovaTE: A Whole of System Approach for Youth Mental Health brings together partners across sectors to improve how youth and families access and experience care within complex systems in Nova Scotia. UNITE Focuses on three main areas: Optimizing current efforts in navigation so that youth, their families and those working with them have a more supportive, compassionate and efficient experience as they find their way to care; Increasing the insights from data collected across sectors so that services can be more effective and equitable; Improving the capacity for people and groups who work in complex systems to undertake innovations together more effectively.

UNITE is supported by funding from Research Nova Scotia.

  • DIVERT

Digital, Inclusive, Virtual, and Equitable Research Training in Mental Health is a
transdisciplinary training platform designed to transform mental health research and
practice for children, youth, and families across Canada. The platform connects learners, researchers, and partners through online training, mentorship grounded in lived experience, collaborative research opportunities, and national gatherings. By bringing together diverse perspectives across sectors, DIVERT Mental Health aims to build a more inclusive, connected, and impactful mental health research community.

DIVERT Mental Health is supported by funding from the Canadian Institute of Health Research and IBM Canada.
